St Francis House has been in existence since 1993. Currently a small community of workers lives alongside three asylum seekers, who receive no state support, as well as welcoming a steady stream of visitors.
Community members eat and pray together regularly, and host various gatherings – see below. Once a week we eat with the Catholic Worker family who started the house and now live nearby.
On Monday evenings we take hot drinks, sandwiches and cakes to homeless people on the streets of the city.
We hold a weekly vigil on Cowley Road, promoting peace and opposing militarism. In addition we join in other local and national acts of witness and non-violent direct actions.
We try to live simply, supporting ourselves by part time work, and produce a newsletter which helps to generate donations for our work.
